Former headmaster Sandip Ghosh undergoes CBI lie detector test, Roy is next

KOLKATA: CBI on Saturday conducted a Lie detector test about Sandip Ghosh, former Rector of R.G. Kar Medical College in Calcutta, as part of the investigation of the Rape and murder of a resident at the hospital on August 9. The agency will conduct the test on six other people, including the main suspect Sandra Royfour doctors and a volunteer in the next few days, report Rohit Khanna and Dwaipayan Ghosh.
A team of experts from New Delhi arrived in Kolkata in the morning to conduct the test, also known as a lie detector test, after obtaining court approval on Friday. A volunteer who had accompanied Roy to two parts of the city before the alleged crime said the CBI had summoned him for the lie detector test.
“On August 9, we were supposed to go to the hospital for my brother’s treatment. But he did not show up. I tried to wake him up at around 10 am. He answered my call at 12.10 pm. When I informed him about the crime, he seemed calm and happy. At around 2.30 pm, he started drinking alcohol,” the volunteer said.
A CBI team visited Roy in the Presidency Jail. “The entire process was explained to him in the presence of a judge,” said his lawyer Sourav Bandyopadhyay of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (South 24 Parganas).
CBI officials said the test was aimed at verifying Ghosh’s statements about the events of August 8 and 9. The CBI also questioned ASI Anup Datta, who is said to be close to Roy.
