Danny Welbeck: Brighton striker says attacking options could cause new manager Fabian Hurzeler ‘major headache’

Welbeck broke the deadlock to score his 100th career goal before Joao Pedro’s stoppage-time winner cancelled out Amad Diallo’s equaliser and secured another Premier League victory over the Red Devils.

The 33-year-old explained that Hurzeler has so many different players who can make a difference in the upper part of the field.

“Every single attacker has their own skills that they can bring to the table; everyone is special in their own way,” he told TNT Sports.

“We have so much talent and it will be a difficult decision for the boss, but it is a real nightmare.

“It’s such a competition, everyone wants to make an impression on the pitch and in daily training. For him, that’s a big problem.

“I bring a lot of experience with me and experience is invaluable. It’s always good to have that knowledge from different situations in my career and keep it with me both on and off the pitch.”

Welbeck scored 100 goals against the club where he began his career and won two Premier League titles.

Next up for Welbeck is a meeting with another of his old clubs: Brighton face Arsenal next weekend (live on TNT Sports).

Although he expressed some regret that this milestone was not reached sooner, the striker stressed that he still has many miles ahead of him.

“It’s a little crazy how it swings around in circles,” he said. “I wish I had gotten into this century a lot faster.”

“It was really difficult with the injuries, but I am happy that I still feel fit and strong.

“I’m looking forward to scoring many more (goals) – 33 is the new 21.

“I feel good, fit and strong. The coach has brought some new ideas and everyone has adapted well. I think it was a tough pre-season; we were in Japan, then came back and had to settle in at home. But it was a really good pre-season and a good start, but we will keep a cool head.”

Speaking immediately after the game, Joao Pedro stressed how Hurzeler had given the players the belief that they could beat the top teams in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro said: “As the coach told us, we have to believe in ourselves. We know they are United, a big club, but I think everyone wants to show our strength.”

“I think that’s what motivates us, playing against a big team and you never know. Now we have to think about the next game, against another big team.”

“I think he (Hurzeler) is a very good person, he always tries to make us believe in ourselves and keep going.

“I think it was another big game for us, another three points, and that’s what he wants: to fight, to push, to the end.”
