Josh Berry rolls over and rides on the roof in a terrible accident on the last lap at Daytona

Josh Berry suffered a horrific crash in the final laps of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. The NASCAR driver was battling for the lead when his car flipped and went upside down the track.

Burton’s car was eventually righted and he walked away while giving the crowd a thumbs up. It’s a rough ending for Berry, who had been driving strong all night. Berry is in his first season in the Cup Series and is still looking for his first win. His best finish this year was seventh at Iowa.

Berry is driving for Stewart-Haas Racing this year. Since the team closed at the end of the season, the 33-year-old signed a multi-year contract with Wood Brothers Racing in July.

“This is a really good fit for me,” Berry said at the time. “I feel like I fit their brand and who they are and how I got here, how they got here. I feel like this is a good fit. I really enjoyed our relationship with Ford and it was important to me to continue it and I appreciate this opportunity and am grateful for it. And it really means a lot to me to drive an iconic car like the 21.”

Josh Berry has a “great opportunity” at Wood Brothers Racing

Berry added: “I have a great opportunity to come here and help get them back to where they want to be and where they want to be, and I have the same expectations. I think we have all the ingredients here at the Wood Brothers, with our connection to Team Penske and Ford, to be competitive. And I think where I am with the Next Gen car, we’ll be able to hit the ground running.”

Before joining the Cup Series full-time, Berry competed full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2022 and 2023. During that time, Berry won three races and finished at least 11th in the regular season standings. When he joins Wood Brothers Racing, he will replace Harrison Burton, who won the Coke Zero Sugar 400 tonight.
