Leafs rookie Nylander deactivates Twitter account

As William Nylander adjusts to life on the ice in the NHL, he is also learning to maintain proper decorum on his social media platforms.

The Maple Leafs rookie recently deactivated his Twitter account “@Snizzbone” after being informed that the term could have more than one meaning.

“The team became aware that some people felt offended by his username and notified him and deactivated it,” Steve Keogh, the Maple Leafs’ director of media relations, told Yahoo Sports.

Nylander said he was unaware that his Twitter name alluded to a derogatory term.

According to Urban Dictionary, “snizzbone” refers to “when someone from the neighborhood rips you off in a business deal.” Additionally, Urban Dictionary has a much more derogatory definition of “snizz,” which was a bigger concern for the Leafs.

The 19-year-old has deactivated his Twitter account for the past two weeks and said he has no concrete timetable for his return to the social media platform.

When he was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft, Nylander said he wasn’t sure what Snizzbone meant, and added: “I just got that from my youth.”

In 18 games since being recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on February 29, Nylander has scored five goals and nine points and averaged 16:17 minutes of ice time per night.
