Being famous can have many positive and negative sides. While many build a legacy that nothing can destroy, life in the public eye also has its downsides, such as the world’s constant interest in a person’s private life. Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars have fallen victim to inappropriate questions and speculation simply because the public is curious about something.

One aspect that often makes many celebrities uncomfortable is questions about their sexuality. In an interview, Hugh Jackman was asked about the gender he was interested in and his answer couldn’t have been more perfect.

Hugh Jackman reacted to gay rumors

Many years before the release of the beloved Deadpool and Wolverine, Rumors started circulating questioning Hugh Jackman’s sexuality. Many fans were curious about what gender he was attracted to, and the speculation caused so much excitement that the actor was asked directly about it in an interview (via ESubscribe on X).

You can’t be a celebrity without rumors of homosexuality going around, can you? Let’s be honest. You know how I feel about this. I don’t think it’s a particularly interesting conversation.

He started by joking that you can’t call yourself a successful Hollywood star if people don’t question your sexuality. He then spoke more seriously about the subject, explaining that he obviously has feelings about it and doesn’t think the answer to the question would change much.

I don’t think it’s as big a deal as everyone thinks. Nobody is sitting here asking me, “Would you rather live in the country or in the city?” But for me it’s kind of a similar question. Do you like blondes or brunettes? Do you like reading autobiographies or do you prefer novels?

He explained that it was no different than asking someone about the region they like to live in or the type of books they like to read. According to Jackman, getting a clear answer about his sexuality would make no difference to how the world sees him.

Yes, on some level it says something about the person. But it doesn’t define who they are. And even if it does, I don’t care what your sexuality is, if it defines you, then we’re not going to have much to talk about.

He added that if someone is gay, it’s just part of what makes them who they are. It seems that Jackman doesn’t believe in reducing someone to their sexuality and actively works against it.

A bigger problem?

While there is nothing wrong with asking a close friend about their sexuality, when audiences demand that a star disclose their interests for the world to judge, several lines are crossed. Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman was not the only one to face such questions, as two other actors experienced the same thing.

In 2018, Tom Hardy was asked bluntly about his sexuality in an interview with Marie-Claire (above RadarOnline). After an older interview resurfaced in which he talked about having to work with men for certain roles, the actor clarified what he meant.

I’ve never put my p**is in a man. I’ve never had a dick in my ass and I have no fucking desire to. If you like that, cool. But it doesn’t turn me on,

Instead of making it a secret or expressing it indirectly, he bluntly stated that he was not gay and did not understand why there was so much discussion about it.

Tom Cruise has experienced something similar when it comes to his sexuality. Many wonder and speculate about whether he is heterosexual or not. It’s safe to say that many stars think such questioning is unnecessarily intrusive and can result in their words being twisted.
