Fossil fuels generate about 60% of the electricity in the United States. Bitcoin uses more electricity worldwide than all of Norway. See the picture? Bitcoin mining uses a huge amount of electricity, which uses fossil fuels, which contributes to climate change, which causes natural disasters, which leads to higher home insurance rates. Do you want even higher insurance rates or Bitcoin mining?
In addition to the huge energy expenditure, Bitcoin mining also involves noise. The noise from Bitcoin mines can cause hearing loss as well as insomnia, migraines, nausea, dizziness, chest pain, and high blood pressure. A Bitcoin mining facility is planned near my home in Woodbury County. In order to begin operations, the Woodbury County Board of Adjustment would need to approve this application for a conditional use permit because the land is zoned for agricultural use.
