Invest in local clean energy

Invest in local clean energy

Methane is a harsh climate pollutant that has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide during its first 20 years in the atmosphere. It is costly to our health, our families and our wallets.

With new federal climate investments, now is the time for utilities to stop expanding methane gas production and switch to renewable and energy efficient alternatives. Arizona families have a right to a quick and equitable transition away from gas and toward local, clean energy sources like solar and geothermal power. We cannot keep our families tied to dirty fossil fuels for another generation.

Tell Governor Katie Hobbs, Attorney General Kris Mayes and the Arizona Corporation Commission that our families are ready for the transition to clean energy.

As a father and utility customer in Arizona, I urge Arizona Public Service and Southwest Gas to focus on cost-saving clean energy solutions for our communities. The seemingly endless rate increases and price hikes for methane gas mean winter heating costs and summer air conditioning bills are too high for families like mine. It is unfair that monopoly utilities increase their profits and continue to pollute the environment in ways that cost us all. We are counting on our utility regulators and policymakers to protect families and communities in need.

Arizona’s dependence on dirty and expensive fossil fuels from other states is not only a threat to our wallets, but also to our health. Methane accelerates climate change – and all the health consequences that come with it, such as heat-related illnesses, asthma attacks and vector-borne diseases.

Our state must capitalize on current federal investments in clean energy and pollution reduction—the largest such investments in U.S. history. It’s time to move on from the bad policies of the past and deliver lower bills, cleaner air, and a stable climate to all Arizonans.

The Arizona Corporation Commission and our state government must hold utilities accountable and advance real solutions to lower our bills and invest in local, pollution-free, clean energy. The health of Arizona families – and our children – must come first.

Yours sincerely,
