State government reception for Sreejesh postponed

The government has postponed a reception for two-time Olympic bronze medalist PR Sreejesh, which was scheduled to take place in the national capital on Monday.

No official reason was given for the change in the program. The new date for Sreejesh’s tribute will be announced later.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will attend the reception to be held at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium on Monday evening.

Education Minister V. Sivankutty called a press conference on Saturday morning to announce the reception for Sreejesh, the only Kerala resident to have won medals in two Olympic Games.

Sreejesh is Co-Director of the Department of General Education.

Mr. Sivankutty had announced that before the award ceremony, a procession in open jeeps would start from the Central Stadium. The procession would be received at 11 places before ending at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium. The Chief Minister would present the State Government’s award to Sreejesh.

However, on Saturday evening, the minister’s office announced that the reception for the Olympian had been postponed. No reason was given.

Dates

The government has appointed Muhammed Anas, Kunhu Mohammed, PU Chithra, Vismaya VK and Neena V, who won medals at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, as deputy sports organisers in the general education department. Mr Sivankutty was expected to hand over the appointment certificates at the function on Monday.
