Traffic stop of teenager leads to weapons, evades charges from group in Frederick: police

There was no shortage of charges against a trio who did their best but were not fast enough to avoid arrest on weapons charges, burglary and other charges.

According to a Frederick County Police spokesperson, patrol officers attempted to stop a 19-year-old driver in the area of Madison and Carrollton Streets around 12:15 p.m. on August 22. Anthony Lee Ferguson Jr. continued driving before stopping near the intersection of Logan Street and Sherman Avenue. Three passengers then got out of the car and fled on foot.

Ferguson was detained at the vehicle and a 17-year-old juvenile was stopped nearby as he attempted to flee, discarding several firearms.

During a search of the area where the teenager was arrested, three handguns were discovered. During further investigation, a fourth was seized.

Investigators determined that one of the handguns was reported stolen from Virginia and two were privately manufactured “ghost guns.”

The minor was charged with weapons offenses as an adult at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, officials said.

A third person involved, 22-year-old Daente Xavier Sewell, was found hiding without permission in the fenced backyard of a Frederick home. He was also arrested, charged with burglary, and later released.

Ferguson was charged with “traffic tickets with mandatory appearance” for fleeing, eluding and operating an unregistered vehicle, as well as a traffic ticket with a fee for failure to obey a stop sign.

He was also released after being summoned by the police.
