Grinding different characters to maximize the lethality of a blow is already enough of a time-waster in games like Diablo. Add in the tasty, bite-sized quests and city-building of Stardew Valley, and you have a recipe that could threaten global productivity—and that’s exactly what Lynked: Banner of the Spark does.
Announced on stage during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Linked: Banner of the Spark is the debut game from developer Fuzzybot. It’s basically a mashup of almost every genre that’s currently hot. Medal of Honor veteran and creative director Max Spielberg described it as a “cooperative action hack-and-slash with a few roguelike and city-building elements.”
The director then explained that the studio “blended these ideas together to create this cozy yet highly kinetic action game where players can battle, build, and befriend a crew of cute robots.” The trailer below gives us a taste of this dichotomy, split between evil robot bashing and cute robot catering.
Watch on
Lynked is set in the distant future of the year 3000, where the world has not yet become an inhospitable wasteland, but humans are still in danger – probably because of an evil robot army. So, as one of the last remaining humans, you must work with the cuddly robots to build a “sustainable” city while killing the black sheep (and using their remains to further build your settlement).
Lynked: Banner of the Spark may have me constantly striving for better builds and buildings when it hits Steam Early Access on October 22nd.
