3 stats Chicago Bears fans need to know about Darrell Taylor

The Chicago Bears made a smart move when they traded to the Seattle Seahawks for Darrell Taylor. While there aren’t many big-name pass rushers left, the team needed to add real depth to the position before the season began. What key stats should fans know about Darrell Taylor?

Darrell Taylor is entering his fourth NFL season and is averaging just over seven sacks per season. That sounds pretty solid, but there have been ups and downs. He had 6.5 sacks early in his career and in what looked like a breakout performance in his second season, his output increased to 9.5 sacks. However, in his third year, Taylor dropped to 5.5 sacks, a career low.

This shows in the advanced stats, too. Taylor had a 6.2% win rate as a rusher last season, according to PFF. That’s down from 8.9% his sophomore year and 8.6% his junior year. So even when he was a little less productive, he still won at about the same rate. He really dropped off last year.

His pass rush productivity rating was 7.1 as a rookie and 6.9 as a sophomore, but dropped to just 6 last year. Still, considering the Bears’ situation, that’s an improvement.

Yannick Ngakoue had a 4.8% win percentage and a 4.8 pass rush productivity rating last year, so the team is selecting Taylor over Ngakoue. Additionally, Dominique Robinson had a 1.4% win percentage and 2.1 PRP. Taylor will come to Chicago as the fourth rusher, so the improvement over Robinson, the current fourth rusher, is huge.
