Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has teamed up with “Wednesday” actress Jenna Ortega for the new music video for her song “Taste.”

The clip, directed by Dave Meyers, first appeared online on Friday, the same day Carpenter’s album “Short n’ Sweet” was released.

In the music video, Carpenter and Ortega fight over a guy – their “beloved friend,” played by “Halloween Ends” actor Rohan Campbell – and repeatedly kill each other in a manner inspired by cult films like “Death Becomes Her,” “Psycho” and others.

In the end, the two realize that they may not be enemies after all and that their ex – who is now dead – was actually mean.

“Clingy, lots of trauma,” Carpenter says of her former boyfriend as the two leave his funeral with smoothies in hand, while Ortega adds, “Very insecure.”

Carpenter addressed the release of “Short n’ Sweet” – which includes hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” – in an Instagram post shared on Friday, and talked about the emotional rollercoaster that was the creation of the song.

“I feel incredibly lucky that every time I write a new record I learn a little more about myself and can be creative from that standpoint,” she wrote. “The making of Short N’ Sweet was one of the most extraordinary, honest, changeable, silly and fun experiences of my life.”

“I thought if something was funny enough to make me laugh, then maybe it belonged in a song,” she added. “Happy or sad!”

Carpenter didn’t name the album “Short n’ Sweet” because, as she says, she is “vertically challenged.” Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she explained that the title was more a reflection of some of the relationships that inspired the songs.

“It was really like I was reflecting on some of those relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had and they’ve had the biggest impact on me,” she noted. “I think about how I react to situations and sometimes it’s very nice and sometimes it’s not very nice.”

Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet Tour” begins on September 23rd.
