Large knife and meth pipe discovered during traffic stop lead police to pistol and open whiskey bottle

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – During a traffic stop in Northern Michigan, police discovered a large knife and a meth pipe, leading to the arrest of the driver.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11:42 p.m., officers from the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on U.S. 31 near State Street in Blair Township, Michigan State Police said.

The police discovered a large, fixed-blade knife on the center console. The knife belonged to the passenger, a 34-year-old man from Grawn.

Officers also saw the driver, a 33-year-old Lake Ann man, attempting to hide a glass methamphetamine pipe under the driver’s seat.

Police searched the vehicle and found methamphetamine in the back seat area and a handgun in the glove compartment.

Police said there was an open bottle of whiskey under the driver’s seat.

Officers determined that the gun belonged to the driver and that he did not have a driver’s license. The driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a firearm and open narcotics in a motor vehicle.

The passenger was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of the knife.

Both men will be held in the Grand Traverse County Jail pending arraignment, MSP said.

Blair Township is located about 40 miles north of Cadillac.
