Vegetables, sausage and even peaches: patients at a hospital in Odessa tell how their lives changed in one day

Recently, combat medic Petro Konoplya went on a hunger strike because of the poor nutrition and conditions in a psychiatric hospital in the Odessa region. In his social media posts, Konoplya noted that patients eat food that looks more like glue and that the walls in the wards are covered with mold. The Odessa RMA promptly responded to the scandal and the hospital was turned into a sanatorium, at least in terms of nutrition. Patients of the institution reported UNN about it.

“Of course it has improved. I ate vegetables in the morning and smoked bacon and fruit in the afternoon. Complaining is a sin,” commented Roman, a patient at the hospital.

“Today the food has improved dramatically. They give us vegetables, sausage, bacon, rich borscht, pasta. They even gave us peaches. Everything is good, even great,” adds Roman.

A hospital patient named Denys also spoke about the positive changes.

“The situation has improved, of course. Breakfast was delicious, lunch was good too – noodles with meat, soup. As they say, nothing will happen as long as you don’t make a mess,” he added.

According to Oksana Alekseeva, a volunteer and director of the NGO “Time of Action”, the solution to this problem is the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense.

However, after the video was published, the Odessa regional administration promptly intervened in the situation. Yesterday, the deputy head of the RMA, Oleksandr Kharlov, visited the hospital and instructed the relevant department to inspect the medical institution and immediately resolve the issue of patient nutrition.
