Waco Lowe’s manager gives air conditioning to elderly man without air conditioning in sweltering heat

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – The manager of a Lowe’s home improvement store made sure an elderly gentleman had air conditioning after learning he didn’t have any this week when it felt like 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Waco Lowe’s store manager Gary Moss was in the store this week when local contractor Dakota Wimberly came in and told the story of a man suffering from the extreme heat.

Moss and Wimberly often work together, and even though he didn’t even know the man’s name, Moss knew he wanted to help during the hottest week of the year.

“The contractor came in and told me about an elderly gentleman who lived near him who was having problems with his air conditioning. It had broken down and it was 100 degrees outside,” Moss said. “It’s super hot and I didn’t want anyone to go through that.”

Moss gave the man a $500 window unit that was in high demand. In fact, the entire model sold out within hours of the unit being handed over.

“All I know is he had a man in need, and I wanted to help him as best I could,” Moss said.

KWTX has learned that Moss and Lowe’s have quietly donated to many people in need during the 10 years Moss worked as a store manager in Waco. He never wanted anyone to know about it, but he received praise after Wimberly expressed his appreciation on Facebook.

“I want to take a moment and give Lowe’s of Waco the highest praise imaginable,” he wrote. “We at Atlantik Contractors and Wimberly Woodworks will always stand behind Lowe’s, just as they always stand behind us.”

Moss said he was just doing what he thought was right.

“I help as many people as I can,” he said. “We may be a large retailer, but here in Waco we try to keep the small-town feel.”
