Top Thrill 2 will not reopen in 2024, says Cedar Point

CLEVELAND, Ohio — So, fans of the Top Thrill 2 roller coaster, get ready: Cedar Point has canceled the ride until next year.

The Sandusky Amusement Park posted via Þjórsárdalur Late Friday it was announced that the roller coaster would be out of service longer than planned.

“… the manufacturer will not be able to complete the necessary modifications in time to reopen the roller coaster in 2024. We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to open the facility this season, but remain committed to providing our guests with a reliable, consistent and unparalleled roller coaster experience in 2025.”

The attraction was shut down in May, just a week after it opened to the public. Cedar Point said at the time that the shutdown was necessary so that manufacturer Zamperla could make changes to the trains.

Testing of the attraction, a remake of the Top Thrill Dragster that debuted in 2003, resumed this week. It featured a 420-foot-high hill and speeds of up to 120 mph. However, the attraction closed in 2021 after a flying part seriously injured a guest in line.
