Accordingly Health equitythe data breach exposed the sensitive data of millions of Americans listed below, with the fintech company stating that not all of the categories listed contained data on every individual. The data breach reportedly occurred on March 9, 2024, and was discovered on March 25. After the data breach was discovered, HealthEquity conducted an internal investigation into the origin of the hack and was able to trace it back to an online data storage location that was compromised.

The compromised site resulted in the unauthorized party gaining access to a “limited amount of data stored in a location outside of our core systems.” HealthEquity does not believe the stolen customer information was used nefariously and is offering affected customers two years of free credit identification, monitoring, insurance and recovery services as compensation.

What can be done about the data breach is that HealthEquity recommends that its customers monitor their bank statements for unusual transactions.
