Dennis Quaid: “The Twins Rarely Come Alone” revival won’t be the same without deceased co-star

Dennis Quaid: “The Twins Rarely Come Alone” revival won’t be the same without deceased co-star

Dennis Quaid agrees to a remake of “The Twins” – but the film wouldn’t be the same without a key character.

“That would be amazing, but Natasha (Richardson). How do we do it without Natasha?” he told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday on the red carpet for his new film “Reagan.” Her sudden death at age 45 in 2009 “still breaks my heart,” he added.

In the 1998 remake of the 1961 original The Twins, Quaid and Richardson played the parents of identical twins Annie and Hallie (played by Lindsay Lohan), who hatch a plot to bring the exes back together. Lisa Ann Walter – who recently said she would “love to do another version of the film” – played nanny Chessy, and Elaine Hendrix portrayed Quaid’s villainous fiancée Meredith Blake.

Lohan “is really amazing. She’s grown into a wonderful person,” Quaid said.

“‘Twins Rarely Come Alone’ was like a whole new career for me,” he continued. “It’s such a beautiful film. And I think people will still be watching it 100 years from now, I really do.”

Richardson died after a seemingly harmless fall that resulted in her being hit on the head while skiing at Mont Tremblant in Quebec. The actress initially refused medical attention, but the head injury proved fatal. She leaves behind her husband, actor Liam Neeson, and her sons Micheál and Daniel, who were 13 and 12 years old respectively at the time.

Richardson was a member of the prominent Redgrave family and was the daughter of Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe winner Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson.

“When that accident happened, I and so many other people were devastated,” Quaid told Us Weekly in 2018. “She had such a beautiful love, married life with Liam and two beautiful boys. She always had a smile on her face when she came to work. That really impacted everyone around her.”

Twenty-six years of “A twin rarely comes alone”: See Lindsay Lohan and the cast then and now

Lindsay Lohan cried when she caught her son watching “The Twins”

“Twins rarely come alone” still has a special place in Lohan’s heart.

In 2020, director Nancy Meyers and Katie Couric reunited the cast via Zoom to reminisce and reenact scenes from the beloved film.

“Without this film, I would never have been bitten by the acting bug. After a film like this, how can you not want to act for the rest of your life?” Lohan said in the video. “It’s timeless and special. Just really special.”

The 26-year-old Disney film resurfaced in Lohan’s life in an unexpected way earlier this year when she caught her young son Luai watching the film on television, she revealed on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in March.

“I just started crying because I thought, he doesn’t even know that’s mom,” Lohan said. “I thought, should I turn it off? And he was just staring at me. Because maybe my voice still sounds similar to how it did back then, so I thought maybe he knows a little bit that it’s me because it sounds like me. But it was a really magical moment. I took a ton of photos of it.”
