Unlimited growth opportunities

My opinion of ODU is simply amazing. I started attending ODU in 2020 at the beginning of COVID-19, so most of my trip was virtual, but despite the virtual environment, the faculty and staff made me feel at home. The campus offers endless opportunities for growth and academic support, as well as recruitment events for students looking for jobs in their field. The campus is bright and vibrant, but science is still the focus. It’s not too much of a party campus, but there are opportunities for safe, healthy fun. All of my professors and advisors were ready and willing to help with any problem, question, or concern.

A freshman’s perspective on ODU

Old Dominion University is a diverse university with a variety of clubs, sports, Greek activities, and more on campus. There are many food options, from Italian to vegan. Everyone on campus is welcoming and helpful, and there is a lot of support for all Old Dominion University students. Personally, I don’t like the location of my dorm complex because the neighborhood is not that friendly, but all of my classes are only a 10-minute walk away. If I could change one thing about Old Dominion University, it would be to have a small dining hall for each dorm complex that is open after the main dining hall on campus is open.

Positivity. Life changing

Diversity is key and this university shows it. From admissions to professors to administration… everything shows a level of diverse rhythm and harmony that brings others together to learn in an environment that is enriching.

A program with a lot of patience

I attended this university starting in 2014 and took many breaks in between for many reasons. I kept struggling with a lot of personal issues each semester but I was still able to come back and graduate with a decent GPA which was fantastic. My biggest issue with the college I attended at ODU was that I got little to no help finding an internship which was one of the reasons I graduated later than I started. I also wish they made their healthcare services more accessible to students no matter what year they are studying in.

Professors

I like the relationship I had with my professors, they really made sure I fully understood what was going on. I think the campus could have been a little safer, there seemed to be a few security issues.

ODU_ First semester

I really like that there are a lot of options if something goes wrong or you fall behind in the courses. There are a lot of resources to help you. However, I don’t like that the professors don’t seem to care much about helping you. College is really about being on your own and the transition from high school to college was definitely different but effective.
