‘Exciting season’ for Bracknell Town, Hunt plans to make even more history

‘Exciting season’ for Bracknell Town, Hunt plans to make even more history

Bracknell Town’s new chairman Andy Hunt says he wants to build on the good work of Kayne Steinborn-Busse and his family over the last decade and make even more history.

Although it had been known for some time that he would take the hot seat, it was only last week that Hunt confirmed that he had assumed full control as chairman and CEO of the Robins.

“We’ve been working on it for just over six months now and it’s great to finally get it behind us,” he said.

Hunt is excited to usher in a new era for the club and commented: “My vision is to continue to move the club forward both on and off the pitch so that we can create even more history with this great club. In the coming months you will see subtle changes and adjustments everywhere. I hope you all see the benefits and if we work together we can achieve something great.”

In the programme for last Saturday’s opening Southern Premier South League game against Poole, which ended goalless, Hunt wrote: “Over the last six months I have watched the team and seen the exciting progress that has been made. Jordan (Ive) and his management team have had a great pre-season and I think he has built one of the strongest teams ever at Bracknell Town FC.”

“I am 100% confident that we have a team that will attract new supporters and turn them into diehard Robins fans.”

He continued: “As a club we want to become more involved in the local community so that they can feel part of the club. We also want to develop partnerships with small local and large businesses. We have set ourselves big goals this year to improve our average attendance.

“With your help and continued support, I am confident we can achieve our goals this season.”

I adjusted the team

Ive was forced to change his team plans when influential winger Ralph Vigrass, who had enjoyed a sensational first season following his rise from the Academy and Sandhurst, left the club to join Vanarama National League club Dagenham & Redbridge, where he signed a two-year contract – following in the footsteps of Haydon Vaughan, who moved to Aldershot Town.

But the manager was quick to make a decision and signed midfielder Ben Purcell, who came through Reading FC’s youth ranks and played in their U21 team until last season. He was also loaned to Hartley Wintney and Farnborough.

Purcell, who turns 20 on August 25, has played for Wales from the U15 to the U19 levels.

He made his debut against Poole, as did Joe Dandy, while Teddy Lawrence came off the bench near the end of the goalless draw at Bottom Meadow.

Gabriel George, who impressed on loan from Slough last season, has signed a permanent contract with the Robins.

On paper, it certainly looks like a top-notch squad capable of fighting hard for promotion again and hopefully winning big in the FA Cup and Trophy. It should be another exciting season for Robins fans.
