Beautiful weather, green grass, friendship and crafts. What more could an adult want? If you are interested in these tempting offers, the Medfield Library’s Outdoor Adult Craft and Chat on the grounds of Medfield State Hospital is the place to be.

This event takes place several times a month and provides the perfect place for people to work on their own projects. Everyone gathers under the trees on blankets and chairs to work and chat for a few hours. Anyone and any craft is welcome, but it’s much easier to bring something wearable. Lots of people knit or embroider, but there are no limits.

The conversation always starts with checking in on each patron and seeing what everyone is working on. Some core members keep an eye on what everyone is working on and enjoy seeing the progress between meetings. These meetings also involve sharing a lot of ideas and materials and talking about upcoming craft events at the library.

This is a great way to get started with crafting or to finally finish a project that has been sitting around for a while. Outdoor gatherings can stimulate creativity and inspire new ideas, and being with other crafters can help you get into the rhythm of work. There are usually several people who share the same hobby or who are skilled at other crafts, so it’s a good opportunity to ask for help when you’re just starting out.

Dogs are also welcome if they are well behaved and friendly. Some members regularly bring their pups, who sniff around everyone’s supplies while they work. Everyone is friendly and welcoming of new people, and because of the location there is no limit on the number of participants. There is no better time to get involved than now, as summer is drawing to a close.

These meetings are held twice a month and no registration is required. For more information and a map of meeting locations, visit the Medfield Library website. Pick up some materials and make new friends with adults who share common passions.
