Fire brigade operations from 7 to 15 August

Newman Fire Station

The Newman Fire Department responded to 32 calls from August 7-15. These included ten calls for emergency medical services, three motor vehicle accidents, three vehicle fires, three possible structure fires, two mutual aid calls, one hazardous materials call, five false alarms, one vegetation fire call and four public assistance calls.

On August 9th, at approximately 7 a.m., the Newman Fire Station was called to a hazardous materials call near Interstate 5 and Fink Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-truck with its load spilled on the exit ramp. Firefighters immediately closed the road to divert oncoming traffic and removed the load from the highway.

On August 9th at 8:26 p.m., the Newman Fire Station was dispatched to a mutual aid call for the Modesto Fire Department. Upon arrival, fire crews provided cover for the Modesto Fire Stations and responded to two calls during the call. The crew was on call for approximately five hours.

On August 10th at 11:05 p.m., the Newman Fire Station was called to a tractor-trailer fire near Interstate 5 and Fink Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a tractor-trailer fully engulfed in flames with no occupants. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no injuries reported and no damage was reported at the time of this report.

On August 12th at 6:38 a.m., the Newman Fire Station was called to a car crash near Interstate 5 and Sullivan Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a car that had overturned and an occupant had been ejected from the vehicle. Firefighters worked diligently to rescue the occupant and the vehicle. The occupant sustained significant injuries and damage was estimated at $30,000.

Gustine Fire Station

The Gustine Fire Department, in conjunction with the Merced County Fire Department, responded to a total of 17 calls between August 11 and 15. These included six calls for emergency medical services, two vegetation fires, one to assist Cal Fire in an area of ​​state jurisdiction, five alarms, three vehicle collisions and one public health call.
