Hungarian rappers criticize Orban’s government

STORY: De:Nash is a 28-year-old Hungarian rapper.

He is part of a wave of musicians who have directed their performances against the state.

The rapper’s main goal?

Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his trip to Russian President Vladimir Putin in July.

Orban’s government called the visit a “peace mission” and defended it by saying it was an important attempt to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

De:Nash became more politically involved after observing the 2019 European Parliament elections.

“I wanted to draw attention to how unhealthy and aggressive the messages that were being spread on the streets were. I have been doing the same thing ever since, and the political environment has not changed since then.”

While Orban’s party remains the dominant force in Hungary, the voices of more media-savvy opposition parties have also gained ground.

A year earlier, it was the 29-year-old rapper Krubi who suddenly became famous.

In his vulgar song, he accused Orban of having performed sexual acts on one of his predecessors.

Young fans are attracted by their own frustration with politics.

“Many people are fed up with the lack of progress. De:Nash tries to use humor and music to get people out of this state and encourage them to get involved in politics.”

“Politics determines our entire world, our lives here. And I think it’s good that celebrities and public figures draw attention to this. And since I also think the current political situation is a joke, it’s really good that the actors use this source of humor.”

The Hungarian government has made little public comment on its music critics.

There was no immediate response to a request for comment.
