Coffee expansion: Record coffee stock in Denton, Texas

Coffee expansion: Record coffee stock in Denton, Texas

Hey, let’s go back to Denton! We stopped in this cute little college town in North Texas earlier this summer to check out Triptych Coffee, a charming coffee cart inside a flower shop that travels around town for mobile events. Today we’re checking out Record Supply Coffee, a cute brick and mortar cafe in the historic downtown area. We love the look of this space, which shares its space with a bike shop and two tattoo artists. That’s pretty much all you need!

The 2024 Build-Outs of Coffee are presented by Ceado and Dona. The 2024 Build-outs of Coffee are sponsored by Pacific Barista Series, La Marzocco, Acaia and Ghirardelli.

As told to Sprudge by Chase Record.

For those who don’t know, tell us something about your company?

We are a family owned and operated coffee bar in Denton, Texas. Chase and Justina Record are the owners and operators and have been in the local coffee industry for 11 years. We are very Denton focused and have opened this place up to our city and its people. Hospitality and quality are our top priority. And we happen to make a pretty good cup of coffee too!

Can you tell us something about the new premises?

The space is located in a historic downtown building that served as a depot for the Denton bus line in the early 1900s. It served as an auto repair shop since the ’70s and was recently purchased and restored to its current state by Kevin Marshall of Bullseye Bike Shop. The space houses Bullseye, a private tattoo artist, another tattoo studio, and Record Coffee Supply. It has an industrial but homey feel.

What is your opinion on coffee?

Quality, consistency and openness to change. Our goal is to be the best and to improve every day. With these values, we don’t believe in hitting the ceiling.

Are any machines, coffees or special equipment planned?

We have beautiful new equipment including a two group La Marzocco Linea Classic S EE, Mazzer Major, FETCO 2131 and a Mahlkönig EK43. Kuma Coffee from Seattle is our main coffee supplier. We serve their Classic Blend as espresso and drip coffee and the Bright Blend as drip coffee. We use the Sun Bear Blend for cold brew and will rotate single origin pour over options throughout the year. We’re starting with a Colombian.

To what extent does your project take sustainability into account?

Waste is of course the biggest challenge and arguably the surest way to ensure sustainability practices are successful and environmentally friendly. We recycle all coffee grounds for our potting soil in the shop and it feeds our mint, rosemary, etc. that we plan to use for specialty drinks this summer. We also have a propagation station that essentially operates on a “take a plant, leave a plant” basis in hopes of saving the plants for plant lovers at home. We are currently weighing our options regarding take-home waste and considering how we can make the biggest impact in the future.

What is your expected opening date/month?

We are planning to open the first week of June. We are currently in the middle of an impromptu soft opening. We received our operating license much faster than we ever expected, which is a huge achievement!

Thank you very much!

Thank you for your attention. We appreciate the opportunity!
