Erik ten Hag has reportedly put his plans to sell Casemiro on hold following his recent performances, although a transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte is close to being completed.

Casemiro was largely disappointing last season, with injuries and poor form meaning he contributed little to a United side in need of quality and finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Towards the end of the season, he was sharply criticized by Jamie Carragher and the expert said that his time as a top footballer was over.

Reports this summer suggested Ten Hag agreed, although he was said to have been open to a sale while some Saudi Arabian teams feared a transfer.

However, the coach has reportedly now “put on hold” his plans to push Casemiro out due to his performances in pre-season and at the start of the actual season.

In the long term, Ugarte could be the player to replace Casemiro when he leaves, perhaps signing a contract to play alongside him or Ten Hag could alternate between the two.

And Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that the transfer appears to be in its “final stages”, stressing that Ugarte, after previously being left out of the PSG squad, has again been left out of the next game this weekend.
