The LNG terminal in the port city of Aqaba is crucial for Jordan’s energy independence and security

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, August 23, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — Leading LNG infrastructure company GAS Entec, together with its group company AG&P and local partner Issa Haddadin, collectively referred to as the Consortium, has been awarded the contract to build the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah onshore LNG regasification terminal at the Port of Aqaba in the Kingdom of Jordan. The contract was awarded to the Consortium by Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the state-owned infrastructure company and customer of the facility.

The scope of the project includes the complete engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of a 720 mmscfd onshore LNG regasification plant, marine works, jetty works and other associated components. Completion, commissioning and delivery is expected within 22 months.

The terminal is widely regarded as Jordan’s most significant energy project and is expected to play a critical role in improving the national economy, trade and service environment, while strengthening Jordan’s energy security.

Jordan relies heavily on natural gas for its energy and industrial needs, but faces security of supply challenges. The new LNG terminal will provide Jordan with the flexibility to source LNG from various global suppliers, ensuring a stable and secure energy source.

GAS Entec and AG&P were selected from a pool of competing companies based on their solid credentials and a cost-effective solution based on GAS Entec’s state-of-the-art technology to modularize and manufacture key regasification components in Korea and transport them to project sites worldwide.

This prestigious award represents an important milestone for GAS Entec and AG&P and underlines their global position in the LNG industry.

Chong Ho Kwak, CEO of GAS Entec, said: “This project is a testament to our commitment to providing innovative and efficient solutions in the LNG sector and adds to our already prestigious list of references.”

Nishant Sharma, Commercial Head of GAS Entec, said: “We are honoured to have been selected for this important project, which will contribute significantly to Jordan’s energy security and economic development. The trust that ADC places in GAS Entec and AG&P underlines our commitment to customer-focused solutions and our ability to provide cost-effective, world-class LNG infrastructure.”

Omar Albadour, Head of ADC’s Energy Division, said: “We are privileged to have renowned LNG infrastructure partners such as GAS Entec and AG&P to implement this strategic project, which will be a milestone in our country’s continued transition to reliable energy. We look forward to the project coming online in the second quarter of 2026.”

The Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah onshore LNG regasification terminal project will enhance GAS Entec and AG&P’s already valued profile as leading LNG terminal developers. This contract adds to their extensive portfolio, including LNG terminals in Indonesia and the Philippines, four FSRU conversions worldwide, two LNG FSU carrier conversions and three LNG bunkering vessels in North America, Japan and Singapore.
