Hillsborough MP arrested for video voyeurism

A Hillsborough deputy was arrested for video voyeurism after Tampa police investigators said he secretly filmed explicit videos of two people in a bathroom at his home.

Justin DiBiase, a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office DUI unit, turned himself in to Orient Road Jail on Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest, sheriff’s officials said.

In June 2021, DiBiase, 26, placed a camera in the bathroom and pointed it toward the toilet and shower, investigators said.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Tampa police began investigating a cyber tip about the incident in May.

“I am disgusted and deeply disappointed by the actions of this individual. This is not only a breach of trust with the victims, but also a serious betrayal of the badge,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the release. “Deputies are sworn to protect and serve our community, but behind closed doors he was a criminal himself.”

DiBiase, who is charged with three counts of video voyeurism, was arrested around noon Thursday, according to the press release. Jail records show DiBiase was released 10 minutes later on $7,500 bail.

He has been placed on leave, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.

DiBiase has been employed by the sheriff’s office since March 2021 and has “no significant disciplinary history,” according to the agency.

The sheriff’s office declined to release DiBiase’s booking photo, citing a state law that exempts the image from public records.

A spokesman for the agency declined to answer questions about DiBiase’s case.

“This is a Tampa Police investigation. You must contact them for further information,” spokeswoman Jessica Long wrote in an email to the Tampa Bay Times.

Tampa police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
