Network and get involved at Scripps Welcome Weekend events on Saturday, August 24

One of the things that makes Ohio University and the Scripps College of Communication so special is the opportunity to learn through interaction and connections with all of the knowledgeable and helpful people and the amazing hands-on learning opportunities available. New students have access to all of this in one place during Scripps College’s Welcome Weekend activities, held in the lobby of the Schoonover Center. The Scripps Student Organization Fair is Saturday from 1:00-1:45 p.m., and College Welcome is from 1:50-3:00 p.m.

“On Saturday, new students can connect with current Scripps students, faculty, staff, student organizations and centers,” said Associate Dean Greg Moeller. “They learn about Scripps-specific organizations and can connect with current student leaders in those organizations. The great thing about the Scripps Organization Fair is that it’s a smaller version of the big campus involvement fair on Sunday. We’re making it easier for students to connect with their peers at Scripps.”

During the College Welcome, students learn from the Dean’s Office, the directors of each of Scripps College’s schools, and the General Manager of WOUB Public Media how to make the most of their time on campus.

“Students learn the importance of making the most of their four-year experience at Scripps and how to connect with faculty, staff and students outside of their chosen major,” Moeller said. “They also learn about the wonderful minors, certificates and experiential learning opportunities.”

Moeller has some important advice for the new students attending the Scripps event on Saturday.

“Ask questions and introduce yourself to faculty, staff, the dean and other students,” Moeller said. “That way, you’ll get the most out of Saturday and your overall Scripps experience.”
