“Donald Trump doesn’t know you at all”

“Donald Trump doesn’t know you at all”

The NPR Network will be reporting live from Chicago all week and bringing you the latest from the Democratic National Convention.

In a speech that included several jabs at former President Donald Trump, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer mocked his previous comments in which he referred to her as “that woman from Michigan” in her speech on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention.

Whitmer referred to Trump as “the man from Mar-a-Lago,” but dismissed his earlier comments, saying being from Michigan was “a badge of honor.”

She targeted Trump’s lack of identification with Americans who “have lived lives like ours.”

“Kamala Harris has lived a life like ours, she knows us,” Whitmer told the crowd. “Donald Trump doesn’t know you at all. Do you think he understands that you can’t come to work if your car breaks down? No. His first word was probably chauffeur.”

Like Whitmer and many other Americans, the Michigan governor said Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris cared for her beloved mother Shyamala Gopalan when she was suffering from cancer.

“Do you think he’s ever had to take items out of his cart before paying? Hell, do you think he’s ever been to a grocery store? That’s what a chauffeur is for,” she said.
