(MENAFN) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is considering the future of his presidential campaign and is considering a possible endorsement of former President Donald Trump, according to Nicole Shanahan, Kennedy’s running mate. Shanahan’s remarks on Tuesday, made during an interview on the Impact Theory podcast, showed that Kennedy is at a critical turning point in his campaign.

Kennedy, who switched from running in the Democratic primary to running as an independent last October, faces significant challenges. His campaign is battling ballot certification issues in several key states and is facing significant financial difficulties. Shanahan highlighted two main options currently being considered: continuing his independent candidacy or working with Trump.

The former Democrat’s campaign has struggled to get going, leading to speculation about the impact of his continued candidacy. Shanahan explained that one option is to continue to create a new political party that could potentially siphon votes away from Trump and inadvertently support a Kamala Harris-Tim Walz presidency. The other option is to abandon the independent campaign and ally with Trump, a decision Shanahan admitted would be fraught with difficulties.

Kennedy’s campaign has been a topic of discussion due to its potential influence on the 2024 presidential election. Recent polling data aggregated by RealClearPolitics suggests that Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, is doing slightly better against Trump when Kennedy is included in the polls. Harris is 46.4 percent ahead of Trump, 44.9 percent ahead of him, Kennedy is receiving 4.5 percent of the vote, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein is at 1 percent.

As Kennedy considers his next steps, the political landscape remains dynamic and his decision could affect the outcome of the upcoming election.
