A new blood pressure watch is coming, and not Apple’s Watch Ultra 3

A new blood pressure watch is coming, and not Apple’s Watch Ultra 3

Huawei is reportedly about to launch its second blood pressure watch, which is set to be the most advanced and useful of its kind yet.

According to Huawei Central, the Huawei Watch D2 is expected to be announced in September this year, with September 24 being the most likely date.

This follows the successful medical certification of a Huawei wearable device in China in early August.

There are currently no concrete details about what the Huawei Watch D2 will offer compared to the original, the Huawei Watch D from 2022.

However, this does not mean that there are no clear opportunities for improvement.

Some reviews noted that the Watch D’s blood pressure accuracy was good rather than excellent and that it was quite a bulky watch.

It is 13.6mm thick and has a relatively large footprint on the front despite a medium-sized 1.64-inch screen.

Huawei has a good excuse, though. Watches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 use fairly standard fitness watch hardware to get the stats needed to estimate blood pressure changes, starting from a baseline value measured with a blood pressure cuff.

The Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 are expected to feature similar technology, assuming they even feature the rumored blood pressure monitoring.

Huawei’s Watch D is a miniature version of a blood pressure cuff with an inflatable strap that uses multiple air sacs. It provides independent readings.

What is impressive here is the power of miniaturization and not the technology used to collect the statistics, which is practically the industry standard.

Of course, this Huawei Watch D2 is of limited use to the average US buyer, as the watch will not go on sale in the States.

It’s also common for there to be a gap of several months between releases or announcements in Chinese and their counterparts elsewhere. Western buyers will likely want to wait for at least a version produced for an audience outside of China.

However, the Huawei Watch D is now relatively widespread in the UK and EU, a good sign for anyone interested in the Huawei Watch D2.
