Google Keep now uses AI to help you create a list

After months of testing, Google Keep is now rolling out widespread support for the new AI feature “Help me make a list” on Android.

Google Keep is based on Gemini and was previously available as part of Workspace Labs, but now it brings the “Help me make a list” feature to all users.

Google began testing the “Help me make a list” feature in Keep in February, and it has since been listed as a Workspace Labs feature on a support page.

The feature, which was mentioned along with the launch of the Pixel 9 series, takes a simple prompt and can use generative AI to help generate a list of items or tasks. For example, “Write a shopping list with ingredients for a healthy dinner” will generate a few options in different categories like “lean protein,” vegetables, whole grains, and more. Once the list is generated, you can either have it regenerated or paste it into a blank note and edit each item from there. The list formatting will be applied automatically.

Keep does not indicate whether a list was created using AI or not.

We’ve confirmed that the feature is rolling out to all Android devices, whether you’re signed up to Workspace Labs or not. In our testing, the feature appeared immediately in Google Keep v5.24.322.01.90 on multiple Google accounts on Pixel 8 Pro, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Pixel 7, and Motorola Razr (2024). The secondary Google account we spotted the feature live on also doesn’t have a Google One subscription, so this is a feature that’s being made available to all Users, regardless of device or subscriptions.

A slightly newer version of Keep, v2.24.332.02.90, also adds a settings switch to turn off this AI feature entirely, but this newer version is not required to use the feature, which is good because this newer version is not yet widely available on the Play Store.
