On Friday, the Jacksonville Jaguars begin their final preseason game of the 2024 season, giving head coach Doug Pederson one last chance to look at his squad before cut-down day next week.
“Yeah, that takes time. The bottom third or even half of your roster – those guys usually play a lot towards the end of the season, right? Because your core players get swapped out and maybe miss some time, and those are the ones that step in and give you those important game reps,” Pederson said this week.
“They’re the ones that play on special teams too, right? Again, it goes back to our philosophy that we just have to develop everybody. We have to continue to coach everybody. You can’t just coach the top third or the top half, right? It has to be everybody. I think that now that you’ve signed players through the draft and through free agents over the last few years, you can see these young players really stepping up and doing good things.”
Friday’s game will be the 17th preseason meeting between the two teams. The Jaguars hold a 9-7 lead in the series. Atlanta last defeated Jacksonville 28-12 on August 27, 2022 after two days of joint practice. Last week, Jacksonville notched its fifth consecutive preseason win since 2023 with a 20-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Jaguars are expected to use their starting players on both sides of the ball in the first half, with some possible exceptions.
