Sharp-eyed fans spot Indiana Jones and the Great Circle connection to the Disney ride

Sharp-eyed fans spot Indiana Jones and the Great Circle connection to the Disney ride

Last week, Bethesda and MachineGames showed a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The two-minute trailer features a lot, from glimpses of gameplay in combat and puzzles to shots of mo-cap actor Troy Baker portraying the famous archaeologist. However, fans noticed a neat connection to a Disneyland ride; Indiana Jones Adventures: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

Writer Tyler Taing took a screenshot of the part of the trailer that alludes to the iconic ride. You can spot the reference in the image shared by Bethesda on X.

In the replies, other fans have appreciated the shoutout. Some are even wondering if the Temple of the Forbidden Eye will appear in the game itself. Bethesda hasn’t confirmed this yet and it seems like it could just be a fun Easter egg.

However, the reference appears in the Notes section. Indiana Jones appears to have a map of the temple in his inventory. It seems odd that a game would include a map of a place you can’t visit. But it could also just be a nice reminder.

Indiana Jones - Temple of the Forbidden Eye

For those who have not been to Disneyland, Indiana Jones Adventure, originally named Temple of the Forbidden Eye, is a dark ride with moving vehicles. It is unique in the Californian park, although it has a sister ride called Temple of the Crystal Skull at Tokyo DisneySea.

Temple of the Forbidden Eye tells the story of Dr. Jones as he explores a cursed temple in India. Guests traverse various rooms during the ride, each containing an iconic trap such as a rolling boulder, a lava pit, or a beetle cluster. And of course, there are snakes.

The ride is a lot of fun and one of my favorite Disney rides of all time. It would make a great segment in a game as there is a lot of backstory behind it. A statue in the temple promises great rewards to explorers – as long as they don’t look it in the eye.

Nevertheless, the adventure of Temple of the Forbidden Eye takes place in 1935, two years before Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set. The developers could easily change the date retroactively or even add a flashback. But either way, it’s fun that the Disneyland ride is officially canon. And who knows? Maybe the upcoming Indiana Jones The journey is also teased.

Will the Temple of the Forbidden Eye appear in the upcoming game? We will find out for sure as soon as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on December 9th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also find its way to PlayStation 5 in the spring.
