After three weeks of competition, the athletes marched into the capital’s stadium.

They watched as the Olympic flag was handed over to the Americans ahead of the LA Games in 2028.

However, some were more interested in watching the breakdancers perform.

Shots from the stands showed the athletes standing in a circle around the breakdancers.

You could see the three in the middle turning on their backs while their fellow athletes applauded them.

The audience was convinced that the breakdancers stole the show from the speakers at the closing ceremony.

One posted: “I realize this happened while speeches were being given.”

A second wrote: “When the breakdance athletes do a counter show to the closing ceremony.”

A third commented: “More breakdancing at the closing ceremony than at the breakdancing event.”

A fourth said: “The breakdancing at the closing ceremony is ten times better than the actual Olympic competition!”

Another added: “I was so hoping someone would start breakdancing in the middle of the ceremony and then they did. Amazing to see.”

The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games had many eye-catching moments to offer.

This includes a spectacular stunt by Tom Cruise when he slid down a rope from the roof of the Stade de France.

Some athletes were even reprimanded after they acted on their own initiative and stormed the stage.

What are the key moves in the break and how are they evaluated?

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, there are five basic things to look for in breakers:

TOP ROCK

This is stand-up dancing; the routines always start with this and include cross-step and salsa steps.

FOOTWORK

When on all fours from a deep squat position, breakers perform footwork patterns and steps, including hooks and kicks.

GO DOWN

This is the transition from top rock to footwork, including knee switch and rock drop.

Freezes

Where interruptive elements hold a position or pose during a routine and act as a pause or “comma” before moving on – from the simple to the extraordinary.

POWER MOVEMENTS

These are the big wow moves, the ultimate crowd pleasers, the impressive showstoppers: flicks, tricks, headspins, air flares, munchmills or windmills.

B-Boys and B-Girls are judged in three categories…

  • Body – this is the physical aspect and includes the execution and flow of the dance through the breakers
  • Soul – this is the interpretation aspect, how the breakers interpret the music, the competition, the respective fight, the space and how they show their character and let the energy bounce off
  • Spirit – this is the artistic aspect that takes into account the creativity of the breakers
