Hillcrest disappears. So do those who remain behind.
The new Harbour Bridge will pass through the once bustling Hillcrest neighbourhood. For those who haven’t moved away, this is what life looks like now.
Due to the ongoing Harbour Bridge project, there will be a traffic diversion for motorists from Saturday.
The new bridge is scheduled to be completed in June 2025. Completion was originally expected in spring 2020.
A new lane will open to access the Uptown area and Leopard Street as the current Comanche Street exit will be closed this weekend.
The new ramp will direct drivers toward Antelope Street and Staples Street to access Leopard Street and the area around City Hall.
The traffic shift will not impact the connection from State Highway 286 northbound to Interstate 37 eastbound or westbound.
From 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, the connector ramp from northbound SH 286 to westbound I-37 will be temporarily closed due to the traffic detour. Drivers will be detoured by taking northbound SH 286 to eastbound I-37 and turning around at Chaparral Street to continue west on I-37.
