Tata and Delta Electronics build charging infrastructure in India

The partners plan to strategically place the charging stations in and around over 50 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Kochi. The initiators further explain that these new charging stations “will significantly expand the existing network of 540 charging points for commercial vehicles”.

“Our endeavour is to make zero-emission freight transport easily accessible,” said Vinay Pathak, Vice President & Business Head – SCV&PU, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, adding, “Increasing the available charging infrastructure on busy routes will encourage more customers to choose electric commercial vehicles and improve vehicle availability, leading to higher sales and better profitability while contributing to a cleaner, greener environment. By installing fast chargers at our dealerships, they can conveniently charge at a familiar location with reliable charging options.”

“Our focus is to provide electric commercial vehicle customers with best-in-class charging solutions that ensure convenience and reliability. This collaboration is a perfect fit with our mission to drive sustainable transportation solutions across India,” added Rajeev YSR, CEO, Thunderplus Solutions.

This is not Tata Motors’ first foray into the charging infrastructure space in India. In March, the company announced a similar collaboration with HPCL, under which the two companies plan to install 5,000 new charging stations across India by December 2024. Last November, a partnership with Bharat Petroleum was announced, under which the companies also plan to “set up 7,000 electric vehicle charging stations in India by next year,” meaning the initiative is also expected to be completed by December.
