Eminem reminisces about missed moments with his family in the emotional music video “Somebody Save Me” from “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” featuring Jelly Roll

Eminem returns with another emotionally intense music video in which he sings about his daughters. Packed with an acoustic tear-jerker from Jelly Roll in the chorus, the Houdini singer has released the video for “Somebody Save Me,” the final track from “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).”

Just over a month after the album’s release, they released a deeply touching video on Wednesday, August 21. In it, Em is seen sitting in a chair watching home videos of key moments of his three children – Hailie Jade, Alaina and Stevie – that he missed due to his demanding job and struggle with addiction.

These include clips of Hailie Jade playing guitar at a concert, walking through her graduation party blowing out birthday candles, Alaina graduating, Stevie opening presents, and his brother Nate celebrating the holidays. As these memories play back, an emotional Eminem falls to his knees and begs for forgiveness.

Later in the video, he also attacks a sleeping version of himself before being placed in a coffin surrounded by crying family members. The video ends with an extended portion of Hailie Jade’s guitar recital, where she plays passionately. Jelly Roll also appears in the video singing the emotional chorus out loud.

One of the main themes of Em’s discography is his battle with addiction and mental health issues. In the final seconds of the video, a message appears urging viewers who may need help to consult BetterHelp, a mental health platform that democratizes access to mental health services.

Fans might connect the latest music video to the recovery artist’s previous hits like “When I’m Gone,” “Mockingbird,” and others, in which he expresses his struggles with being a good father while navigating the storms of his addiction and career.

Earlier this week, Alabama rapper Jelly Roll shared his thoughts on his performance with Somebody Save Me by Marshall, the artist he described as his “childhood hero.” On July 12, Jelly Roll posted on Instagram how much Slim’s music resonated with him, saying it resonated with him more than any other art form.

He felt that Em understood where he was coming from and could relate to every lyric that made him feel loved and seen. In his caption, he added, “So you can imagine how I felt when I got the call that Eminem would be sampling my song ‘Save Me’ on his new album. And for him to use the song to discuss the other side of what could have happened if he had allowed his demons to win brought me to tears.”

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) was released on July 12 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It is Eminem’s eleventh number one album. The song “Somebody Save Me” is the somber closing track of this album and features a jelly-roll chorus that is heavily influenced by his other hit, “Save Me.” The song peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
