Thousands of Westport residents use Nixle. The flexible notification system allows city officials to notify residents via text, email or phone about emergencies: floods, downed pipes, police calls, tornadoes, gas leaks, missing people and more.

Messages can be sent to any resident in the city or to an affected neighborhood or group. Users choose how they want to receive notifications.

Now the city has introduced another measure to increase security.

Community Connect provides first responders with critical information about residents, businesses and property during incidents and major disasters.

The secure, user-friendly platform allows Westport residents to voluntarily share important household information with emergency personnel.

The details – emergency contacts, special needs and more – enable first responders to act even faster and more effectively than they otherwise could.

Information for homeowners and renters includes: type of residence, sprinkler system, gas, water and electricity shut-off points, fuel tanks, swimming pools, a designated family meeting place, mobility or health issues of family members, pets, a gate code and more.

Information for businesses includes emergency plans, procedures for employees and guests, mobility issues, access and utility details, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials on site, emergency contact information for owners and managers, and more.

Fire Chief and Emergency Management Officer Nick Marsan

“Community Connect is a valuable tool for our community,” said Nick Marsan, Westport Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director.

“Having access to important details can make it much easier for us to handle and resolve the situation. This proactive approach allows us to help our residents as efficiently as possible at the crucial moment.”

Application is voluntary and residents have full control over the information they share.

According to Marsan, data entered into Community Connect is protected by the highest security standards and used solely to improve emergency services.

The city government welcomes feedback from the community to ensure the system meets the needs of residents and businesses.

Residents and business owners can now create profiles. Click here to get started.
