Officials have taken into custody an inmate who escaped on foot in downtown Statesboro

ARRESTED: Caleb Scott was taken into custody at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was located on North Main Street in the area of ​​Truist Bank and Winnelson Supply. He was arrested without incident approximately an hour and a half after fleeing the area where he was last seen, without traveling a few blocks from the Couthouses

As of 3:50 p.m. today, law enforcement officials continue to intensively search for Caleb Scott, an escaped inmate in downtown Statesboro. Scott, who was being held at the Bulloch County Courthouse, escaped on foot at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2024.

Caleb Scott is described as a black male, approximately 5’8″ tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds. When he escaped, Scott was wearing a black and white prison jumpsuit and his shackles were reportedly still in place. He was last seen near the Statesboro Herald building on Proctor Street, just two blocks west of the Bulloch County Courthouse.

The police have a strong presence in the city center and are also using drones and police dogs to search for Scott.

Authorities are urging the public not to approach Scott if he is seen and to immediately call 911 or 912-764-1771.

The situation remains ongoing and residents and businesses in the area are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
