“SNL” star Kenan Thompson criticizes Project 2025 guidelines at DNC

“Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson poked fun at the conservative Project 2025 on stage at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night and spoke to Americans who could be affected by its proposals.

Thompson entered the stage carrying a large prop book that appeared to be the conservative Project 2025, a 920-page document.

“Have you ever seen a document that could kill a small animal and democracy at the same time? Here it is,” Thompson said to laughter from the audience. He also compared the document to “the conditions of a second Trump presidency.”

He then spoke by video to Americans who could be affected by the proposed actions of Project 2025, which was organized by the think tank The Heritage Foundation and developed largely by people who served in Trump’s administration.

After some technical glitches, Thompson spoke via video with a woman named Becky, who said she had been with her wife for “about 8 years.”

Thompson said he had “bad news” for Becky, pointing to a section of Project 2025 that “calls for the elimination of protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.” He added that the policy was like a “return to the Stone Age.”

He then spoke to a person named Nirvana, who takes insulin for her diabetes. Nirvana said that thanks to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, she only has to pay $35 a month for her insulin.

“That’s great,” Thompson said, but then dismissed that too, pointing to another page of Project 2025 that calls for millions of people to “pay more for prescription drugs like insulin.”

Then came Anita, a gynecologist who “delivers babies and performs operations.”

“Uh oh,” Thompson said. “On page 459, Projects 2025 revives a 19th-century law, the Comstock Act, which bans abortion nationwide and puts health care providers in jail.”

“That’s terrible,” Anita replied.

Most recently, Thompson spoke to a “proud official” who works for the Department of Education.

“Well, unfortunately for you, on page 78, Project 2025 calls on President Trump to purge the civil service of anyone who is not a MAGA loyalist,” Thompson explained, pointing to another excerpt from the document that “calls for the complete abolition of the Department of Education.”

Thompson concluded his talk by reminding the audience that everything they had talked about was “very real” and “in this book.”

“The most important thing is that you can stop this by electing Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.”

Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly attempted to distance himself from Project 2025. In a post on his social media site, Trump claimed, “I know nothing about Project 2025.”

Other famous faces on the DNC stage Wednesday night included Stevie Wonder, who sang “Higher Ground,” and the evening’s host Mindy Kaling.
