Hawaiian soldier arrested in connection with the disappearance of his pregnant wife from a military base

A young soldier has been arrested and is awaiting trial after his pregnant wife disappeared from an Army base in Hawaii three weeks ago, the news agency said Monday.

Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II of Frederick, Maryland, was arrested and placed in military custody, the Hawaii-based 25th Infantry Division wrote on Facebook. His arrest came weeks after his wife, Mischa Johnson, was reported missing from their home at Schofield Barracks on Oahu on Aug. 1, according to the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

Johnson joined the Army in 2022 and attended a combined basic and technical training course at Fort Moore, Georgia, in November of that year. He joined the 25th ID as a cavalry scout in June 2023, the unit said.

The Army did not provide any information as of press time Wednesday about when Johnson was arrested, when he is expected to appear in court or what charges he faces. He is not currently listed on the Army’s public court docket.

Mischa Johnson, 19, was reportedly last seen at her home on the evening of July 31, the CID said. A poster calling for punishment described her as 5’2″, 175 pounds, of Filipino descent, with a large dragon tattoo on her back. She was six months pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

She frequently stayed in the Ewa Villages and Waikiki areas and was “possibly emotionally distressed,” Honolulu police said on August 2.

“Mischa is a loving wife who is committed to her marriage and wants to raise a child with her husband,” her mother, Frances Tapiz-Andrian, told Military.com. “We entrust the CID with the ongoing investigation and hope for the best outcome.”

The 25th Infantry Division said on August 14 that Army officials in Hawaii did not believe the woman’s disappearance indicated a major threat to Schofield Barracks or the local Army.

“Our efforts remain focused on locating Mischa, assisting her family, and ensuring the safety of all personnel at U.S. Army bases in Hawaii,” the unit wrote. “This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.”

The Army urged anyone with information about Mischa Johnson’s disappearance or whereabouts to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at (808) 208-0059. The Criminal Investigation Division is offering a $10,000 reward for help in locating the woman.
