Former President Bill Clinton mobilizes crowds for a “clear decision” in November

The NPR Network will be reporting live from Chicago all week and bringing you the latest from the Democratic National Convention.

Former President Bill Clinton addressed the crowd on the third night of the DNC, thanking President Biden for his service, praising Kamala Harris and emphasizing how much is at stake in the November election.

“Let’s get straight to the point. I’m too old to exaggerate any further,” said Clinton, who recently turned 78.

“But I’m still younger than Donald Trump,” he added to thunderous applause.

“In 2024, we face a clear choice: ‘We the people’ versus ‘Me, myself, and I,'” Clinton continued. ‘We the people’ is, of course, the Wednesday theme of the convention.

“Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for the opportunity the American people gave me to be one of the 45 people who have held this job. Even on the bad days, you can still do some good,” Clinton continued.

“Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race with the vision, the experience, the spirit, the will and yes – the sheer joy – to do this on good days and bad. To be our voice.”

Clinton also specifically praised his wife’s speech earlier in the week. Hillary Clinton had spoken in prime time on opening night of the DNC, two days before her husband. She used her time at the podium as an opportunity to pass the torch to Harris – from one woman nominated as presidential candidate by one major party to another.
