(NEW YORK) — Texas has been experiencing record-breaking heat since the weekend, and Wednesday will be no exception. Another day of record-breaking temperatures is possible.

Houston was one of the Texas cities that experienced the hottest day of the year on Tuesday. Temperatures in Houston reached as high as 102 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius), according to the National Weather Service.

Several Texas cities set or broke heat records on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 42 degrees in Del Rio, 40 degrees in Borger, 39 degrees in Amarillo and Corpus Christi, and 37 degrees in Galveston.

Further record temperatures are forecast for Wednesday in Abilene at 109 degrees and in San Antonio at 106 degrees.

Heat indices in the San Antonio area could reach highs of nearly 115 degrees, with isolated thunderstorms possible during the hottest part of the day in the afternoon, ABC News’ San Antonio affiliate KSAT reported.

KSAT reported that gusty winds and lightning were possible, but most of the region would remain dry.

Parts of Texas are forecast to continue to experience some of the hottest weather of the year Thursday through the end of the week.

Record temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius are also forecast for Roswell in the state of New Mexico on Wednesday.

Texas is not the only country experiencing extreme heat. Heat warnings have been issued for Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, with heat index temperatures reaching 46 degrees in some areas.
