“Emily in Paris”: All the bad sides of season 4 by French Person

  • I am French and I saw the first part of the fourth season of “Emily in Paris”.
  • Several scenes made me cringe, including the scene where a French landmark was disrespected.
  • I don’t like the fact that in some parts of the show the French are portrayed as incompetent at work.

“Emily in Paris” is now entering its fourth season – and yet the series still gets so many things wrong when it comes to the city whose name it bears.

The Netflix original, which debuted in 2020, follows American marketing executive Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins) as she starts her new life in Paris.

Although the series was heavily panned by audiences, it remains extremely popular – the first part of the fourth season had nearly 20 million views when it premiered on Netflix.

As a French person, I would say that the first season did not portray France and its culture well. The second and third seasons showed promise as Emily put a little more effort into integrating herself into the French lifestyle.

Unfortunately, the fourth season feels like a step back to Emily’s old self: she is more American than ever and seems to have come to the conclusion that it is better for her to remain culturally stagnant.

Here are some of the worst parts of this season so far.
