Aaron Judge did not respond directly to the Staten Island Little League coach who oddly reprimanded him for allegedly not spending enough time with his players during the Yankees’ appearance in the Little League World Series on Sunday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
“I don’t care about the comments,” Judge said on Wednesday. “I play in front of 40,000 fans every night and get booed when I’m down 1-0.”
His reaction stemmed from South Shore Little League coach Bob Laterza’s statement to silive.com that Judge did not interact with his players when they shouted at him from their seats during the Yankees’ loss to Detroit.
“How about you turn around or wave to New York and the kids who consider you a hero,” Laterza told the website. “They’re the ones who pay your salary.”
Judge, like many other Yankee players, spent time with Little League players from around the country and others attended a pre-arranged session with the Staten Island team.
Judge said he was made aware of Laterza’s comments on Tuesday.
“I’m not going to give him an answer because it’s about the kids,” Judge said. “That’s what it’s about. We had a chance to spend a lot of time with a lot of kids in Williamsport, create great memories and had a great time at the game despite the loss, so I want that to be the focus.”
