Everything we know so far about season 2 of “Squid Game”

Netflix recently announced the premiere date for the second season of its groundbreaking, viral hit series. Squid Gameand also announced that it will end with a third season.

Written, directed and executive produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series follows a contestant who enters a secret competition in which people risk their lives to participate in a series of deadly games and win a huge prize.

Here is the official synopsis for season 2:

Three years after his victory at Squid Game, Player 456 is still determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their cruel sport. Using his fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts at the most obvious place: he looks for the man in the fancy suit playing Ddakji on the subway. But when his efforts finally bear fruit, the path to dismantling the organization proves deadlier than he thought: to end the game, he must re-enter.

“It’s been nearly three years since Season 1 received an incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place,” Dong-hyuk said in a letter from Netflix about the season. “I’m so excited to write this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news about Season 3, the final season. The first day we started filming Season 2, I thought, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It felt almost surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years.”

He continued, “Seong Gi-hun, who swore revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and joins the game once again. Will he succeed in his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce battle between their two worlds will continue until the series finale with Season 3, which will air next year. I’m thrilled to see the seed planted to create a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit by the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we give you yet another thrilling ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come. Thank you always and see you soon, everyone.”
