Danielle Collins attacks loud fans at Monterrey Open during surprise

American tennis player Danielle Collins is running out of patience.

The 30-year-old professional player attacked a group of unruly fans during her round of 16 match at the Monterrey Open on Tuesday after they appeared to interrupt her opponent Erika Andreeva’s serve.

“What on earth?” Collins screamed, throwing his hands in the air in frustration.

“I don’t understand. It’s not that hard to let us play tennis and support us.”

Both players were reportedly interrupted by the same group of fans, but Collins’ outburst seemed to silence them from that moment on.

Unfortunately, this was not enough for the world number 11 to regain her focus and she suffered a shocking loss to Andreeva, who thus earned her first career win against a top 20 player.

Collins entered the tournament as the top seed, but Andreeva easily won the first set 1:6.

Collins responded by winning the set 6-3, but Andreeva secured her place in the quarterfinals by winning the third set 6-3, ending the match in just under two hours.

“Every time I play against an opponent of this level, I try not to think about his ranking because that puts even more pressure on me,” Andreeva said after the match, via the WTA website. “Can I do it? And I have to take all the chances I get. But this time I thought, OK, I’ll just hit the yellow ball and I don’t care who I’m playing against.”

Collins has just reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

She plans to retire at the end of this season.
