Warm and windy days will soon become hotter

HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – The sun is shining in some areas while others are mostly cloudy this morning. There will also be some light fog. Cloud cover will decrease as the day progresses. At the same time, winds will increase from the south-southeast, to around 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. It will be a warm day for most of us, but it will get warmer in the west. Highs will range from 25 to 30 degrees in the east to 27 to 35 degrees in the west. It will be even hotter in the Panhandle. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop in western Nebraska by late afternoon. These will then move into western parts of the Local4 coverage area by evening. Severe storms with isolated large hail are possible over western and northwestern parts of the area, and strong wind gusts are possible. As they move towards central and eastern areas later tonight they will weaken and become somewhat more isolated. Tomorrow morning we will reach lows of around 15 degrees.

There may be a few showers early in the day on Thursday, but otherwise the skies will be partly sunny. A fresh wind will again be blowing from the south-southeast. Highs may be a degree or two cooler, between 25 and 30 degrees. The highest temperatures will again be in the west, again in the late afternoon and evening. Severe weather may return, especially over the western half of the area. They will weaken as they approach the Tri-Cities later tonight. Some severe weather may linger into the early hours of Friday.

Friday will be warm but not as windy with highs between 27 and 32°C. Partly cloudy skies are expected. There is a very slight chance of thunderstorms. After that, a mostly dry and hot weekend is in the offing. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will rise to 32 to 38°C, with the highest temperatures in the south and southeast of the region. Monday through Wednesday will see temperatures cool down a bit, but it will still be a bit hot. Highs will still be between 30 and 35°C. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

In the last days of August, a larger amount of cool air will arrive from the north. Highs will rise again to 21 to 25 degrees, but I would not be surprised if the highs forecast for this period tend to fall. With the cold front, the probability of thunderstorms could also increase.
