Ring’s new battery-powered doorbell features head-to-toe video

Ring announced the next generation of its battery-powered doorbell on Wednesday. For $100, customers get longer battery life, color night vision, 360-degree visibility of visitors and a new push-pin mounting system.

Head-to-toe HD video was previously only available with the Doorbell Plus and Pro models. Ring says the Battery Doorbell now offers a 66% better view of visitors than the Ring Video Doorbell 2nd Gen, the previous generation of the company’s affordable battery-powered product. The additional 150-by-150-degree field of view gives customers a full, top-to-bottom view of what’s outside their door, making it easier to check what packages have just been delivered.

Full-screen viewing has become a common and expected feature for users interested in modern video doorbells. Ring was one of the first smart doorbells on the market and has struggled with competition from several new rivals. By adding full-screen video to its affordable battery-powered doorbell, Ring now falls in line with competitors like Arlo, Google Nest and Wyze, all of which offer the feature.

The new doorbell’s battery life has also been increased by up to 23% compared to the previous model. Ring has made charging the battery easier with a redesigned mounting system that allows customers to remove the doorbell from the door with a push pin.

In addition, the color night vision function allows you to see clearly both day and night.

Every doorbell in Ring’s lineup can send motion alerts, provide a live view of camera footage, enable two-way talk, and allow customization of motion zones. When paired with the Ring Protect plan, which costs $5 per month or $50 per year, users can receive person and package alerts and access 180 days of video history.

Ring’s battery-powered doorbell is available for pre-order starting today on Ring.com and Amazon.com, with deliveries to customers beginning September 4.
